The Lady Vols head coach was chosen as Sports Illustrated sportswoman of the year. She shares the honor with legendary Duke head coach, Mike Krzyzewski. WBIR-TV in Knoxville reports that in addition to being selected for having such a high amount of career victories (1,075), Sports Illustrated also chose Summit because, “of the way she is handling the announcement of her diagnosis and fight with early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type. In a way that didn’t surprise any of her fans, Summitt has not only vowed to coach through her illness, but is leading the fight for a cure.”
